Deliver Fruit and Veggies to PKU Children, Twice a Month
Dire Emergency
This is a miracle in motion. In the midst of devastation, our Rebuilding Alliance team is distributing fresh, low-protein fruit and vegetables to children with PKU (Phenylketonuria) in Gaza City— right now. These children depend on a strict low protein diet to survive; otherwise, dangerous levels of phenylalanine build up, causing irreversible brain damage.
Request:
Children with PKU (Phenylketonuria) in Gaza are in urgent need of fresh fruit and vegetables to avoid permanent, cumulative brain damage. They also need special medical food. Right now Gaza GivingCart™, a project of Rebuilding Alliance, asks your help to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables from local markets.
What is PKU?
Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a rare genetic disorder where the body cannot break down an amino acid called phenylalanine, found in protein. Without a strict low-protein diet and medical formula, phenylalanine will build up in the blood, causing irreversible brain damage. Thankfully, this is preventable with early diagnosis and lifelong dietary management, essential to protect a child’s development and health.
Rebuilding Alliance, in coordination with expert nutritionist Dr. Hamouda in Gaza and PKU specialists in the West Bank, is launching an urgent two-part intervention to support children with PKU (Phenylketonuria) and their families. They need fruit & veggies — and they need Medical Food — every day.
Our PKU Emergency Nutrition Response:
In Gaza, we are providing fresh fruit and vegetable packages to families caring for children with PKU. These locally sourced parcels provide critical low-protein nutrition. With Gaza’s markets in ruins and supply chains broken, fresh produce seemed impossible to find. But our team doesn’t give up. We work with a trusted supplier who secures best prices when he buys the fruit and vegetables that are available in the local market each day, selected to maintain best nutritional value.
This time we started in Gaza City, buying 29 parcels on the first day, filled with squash, tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini, and spinach! Yesterday they found tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini, and mulukhiyah and completed all 40 deliveries in Gaza City and North on Friday Jun 27th and Saturday Jun 28th!
Next Deliveries : Deir Al Ballah Area and Khan Younis Area.
